How to Resist the Immediacy of Opressive Online Narratives?
With this artistic research I aim to map the constellation of digestive practices or their indigestion as both a literal and metaphorical condition due to the current accelerated diffusion of online input. My previous thesis digestion & girlblogging delves into gender theory & ruminates over diaristic narratives, often aligned with Laurien Fournier’s take on autotheory, where “the personal is also political”. Building upon my earlier thesis, I attempt to expand and articulate an artistic vocabulary on the digested data miasma, particularly connecting with online discourse such as the fascist manosphere ideologies, amplified by tech elite platforms or the italian brainrot – all repackaged one touch away from doomscrolling. I’m especially intrigued by girlblogging, a practice emerging from blogs, memes, and critical commentary, where the “girl” is not a literal human figure, but a semiotic construct shaping online aesthetics and discourse, by reflecting on it alongside Alana’s Involuntary Celibacy Project in 1997.
As a nBi artist I’m irrevocably passionate about girl theory such as Girlbrain: A Theory by the transdiciplinary researcher and writer Jess Henderson or the questionable Preliminary for a Theory of the Young-girl by the French Italian post-Marxist philosophical journal called Tiqqun. It’s urgent to place the girlblogger as a cultural digestion organ who rethinks sexist stereotypes.
I often work between diaristic writing and drawing practices, where I collect my own waste and reimagine it into a primordial soup of image-making. This process has led to the creation of work that embodies a reflection not only on material excess but mostly a conflict in permanent actualization with my own surplus as a cyber-junkie - a process of accumulation and accelerated diffusion. In light of articulating an artistic vocabulary I intend to continue my ongoing encyclopedic archive titled _how many cute girls to you have to draw before you figure out how to become _one and work on a publication of essays or anecdotes and drawings that reflects on the metabolization of the poetics of indigestion from online narratives.
